Even if you don't often watch television, you cannot fail to have noticed that dancing seems to be more prevalent on the small screen nowadays. Most of us like to get up and dance from time to time, but the renewed popularity of dancing seems to have turned it into a craze.

We're not just talking about dancing to pop records or going to gigs here either. Such stalwarts of the dance hall as ballroom dancing are making a big comeback. Most of us have tuned in at one point or another to see famous celebrities showing us their skills on the dance floor, thanks to the popularity of TV programmes featuring experienced dancers paired with celebrities each week.

But dancing isn't just fun to see on television. There are lots of benefits to it in other ways as well. For instance it can provide you with a great hobby. After all if it is such fun to watch, wouldn't it be more fun to actually take part and learn yourself? There are plenty of dance groups and get togethers all across the UK and you can take up a weekly class to get out and about to meet new people.

Another major benefit is that dancing is a great form of exercise. We all know we need to exercise regularly but ideally you should pick a form of exercise you enjoy. If you fancy learning to do ballroom dancing or any other kind of dancing, come to that you would certainly get plenty of enjoyable exercise in the process.

It was certainly the case in years gone by that ballroom dancing in particular fell out of favour in the UK. It was seen as something that only the elderly did and it seemed to belong to an era that had long since passed. But ever since it made a comeback with the aid of celebrities on prime time television it has won over a whole new legion of fans. It has become modern and enjoyable again, providing a sheen of glitz and glamour that is attracting more and more people all the time.

It has also led to live shows and dancing exhibitions becoming more popular and giving more people the chance to watch as both professionals and amateurs take to the dance floor to enjoy this fast growing pastime.

We certainly have a lot to thank Strictly Come Dancing for. While it might primarily be entertainment, it is also responsible for reigniting the passion and excitement for dancing in the UK. Who knows where it might lead to and how many people might be able to take on this new hobby as a result?
