Headlight Horror

Headlights are an important part of the car, lighting our way at night and illuminating our journeys when the conditions are bad. But it seems that many of us are not using our headlights correctly. over half (fifty four percent) of Brits admit that they have accidently made a journey forgetting to turn on their headlights, and over a million motorists are guilty of having crashed, made a sudden manoeuvre or had a near miss with another car due to not putting their headlights on.

This is an issue all year round, but at this time of the year its particularly dangerous, with the days being shorter and the weather being bad, making visibility poor.

Research conducted by a car insurer reveals that it is potentially up to twenty six million people on the roads in the UK that are unaware of the Highway Code and guidelines that it suggests when using the headlights. Over four million motorists never use their sidelights and more than two and a half million people have never used their fog lights. Almost all of the motorists in the UK have been dazzled by oncoming traffic, by people not using their dipped lights when passing another driver.

Nine out of ten drivers say that if someone is driving towards them with their full beams on, they have flashed their lights, but this is confusing, as all motorists questioned revealed that they never know why they are being flashed. Some think it is because of police ahead, some think there is something wrong with their car and all say it distracts them from the road ahead.
