subject: How Knowledge Will Help You Survive The Worst Days Of Your Life Or The Fall Of Civilization [print this page]

In the post-911 world many people seem to finally understand that you need to be ready for the worst whether that is a terrorist attack or natural disaster. While emergency services will try valiantly to reach you, and the government will try to stabilize the situation you can't wait around for help. You need to be prepared whether you plan to make a stand or run for the hills, and you can't wait for the last minute to start getting ready.

Planning takes time and so does training, and you know when hell rains down on you won't be during a convenience time. So start training, planning, and begin doing your research. Being ready willing and able to deal with a crisis doesn't make you some survivalist nut job, but rather a responsible citizen.

You're from the same stock as other Americans who came before you who were self reliant, and didn't wait for the government to save them. So you can either help yourself or let you and your family be at the mercy of others, and lately the government's track record hasn't been that great.

Look at what happen during Hurricane Katrina where the government seemed to fail on almost every level, and honest law abiding citizens had their guns taken away and their loyal pets shot while corrupt cops looted the city.

Bottom line is even if your state government asks the feds for help it will take those three days to organize and get people on scene, and that is assuming people and equipment are available.

During the Cold War in the United Kingdom the government setup shelters in case of nuclear attack and staffed them, but neglected to provide for the families of the civilian and military personnel who would staff them. The personnel refused to serve without their families and soon the planners realized they need a lot more supplies and space.

The first step in preparing for a crisis is to make a list of everything you need, and yes that means everything. From diapers for your kids, to drinking water and medical supplies along with other tools and weapons that you need to stockpile. Also don't forget your loyal animals, and friends that will come looking for help. To prepare to defend yourself you need to train with your weapons and in hand to hand combat. Even if you have a good supply of ammunition not every situation requires that you use lethal force.

Now this has been written before about having books around that have information you might need, but what about all you have on your computer? You can't count on having power to run your PC, so you should print out important manuals and files and put them in waterproof containers (there is a reason we provide manuals for down load and every training module comes with a written manual).

Also don't just stick to military manuals, you should also have manuals for craft skills, and ones that will help you repair any machines you might have. Being cut off for months or even years is a scary thought, but you have to have the knowledge to make yourself self reliant or you will perish.
