Productive People have the Right Office Furniture

I just arrived back from the shopping centre after buying a small desk which can hold all my office paperwork and allow me to work comfortably. When I opened my laptop, the word office furniture caught my attention. I was actually initially planning to finish my review of related literature for my thesis but then I was so excited with my desk that I changed my mind and started writing about furniture instead. Why is it so important to have this kind of thing in your workplace? Well, my work place is not busy enough to be called an office but I can name several reasons why it is important to have this.

When I graduated in my undergraduate course, I worked in an academy for about two years. I observed people working away in their little office like ants doing their assigned tasks dutifully, without thinking of themselves. I could see in their faces that they were quite stressed with the kind of environment they had. The office was kind of monotonous and grey. The tables and chairs were so plain, without any character, a kind of office that the average worker dreams of escaping.

Office furniture should actually say something about the person who is working with it. We should look at this statement in this way. We spend the majority of our life in an office or in a home office. So, it should be a place where we are comfortable to be able to deal with the paperwork and work deadlines. Hence, one should put special thought into picking the desired furniture. Get furniture that reflects your style and character.

Let's start by choosing your very own office desk. This should be your initial decision because office desks are the first item of furniture that visitors can see when they enter your office. Choose a disk that allows you to move around and allows you to accomplish the tasks at the end of the day. Do not be tempted to get a big desk. Visualize first the kind of work that you will be doing. Will you be doing more paperwork or computer work? If you will have stacks of paperwork, you could have a bigger desk to accommodate the paperwork and you should also consider having shelves on it. This is what my friend has at home and I find it effective. If you use the computer mostly and have little paperwork, most people choose to have a desk that allows them plenty of legroom, but I prefer to have a small one. When I say small, it's a desk that has a length of 100cm. It allows me enough working space to have my laptop and a printer positioned and I need very little else in my day to day operation.

Next to be considered are office chairs. Sitting on an uncomfortable chair can cause discomfort and often back and neck pain. You should at least choose a chair which is comfortable, if not ergonomic and compliments your desk. There are many styles available made from various materials. You can have ergonomic, contemporary, and traditional style office chairs made of leather, mesh, and fabric to name a few.

In choosing furniture it usually boils down to you preference. In general, choose something that won't make your body ache and your mind cluttered, but not to the extent that you will become too comfortable that it will make you feel sleepy!
