A very common search online these days is for chair floor protectors. Now, when you think of these you probably think of those felt pads that you can place underneath the legs of each of your chairs to prevent them from scratching the surface of your nice floors that you spent tons of money on. There are many different types of these protectors, however, and it is important to know the difference between the main types in order to get a feel for which ones are the best for your house and your budget.
The first type is the plastic cap. These work really well because they will cover the entire bottom of each chair leg and will come in various colors so that they match the furniture itself. It is very important to buy caps which match the actual chair that they are covering because if they do not match, then they will stick out like a sore thumb and it will look really bad and ugly, something which you do not want happening in your house. The plastic caps come in various different sizes, and are the cheapest form for protecting your floors against damage from the furniture in your house. These aren't perfect, however. Because plastic is a hard substance, if you have a softer type of wood on your floors then they can still end up scratching the surface. These types of caps work best on vinyl or tile floors, such as those found within a classroom.
The next best thing you can do, should you not be interested in the plastic form of furniture protection, is to use rubber feet. These are a much better solution than the plastic caps because rubber is much softer than plastic and therefor will prevent any scratches from forming at all. Rubber feet will run you a little more money than the plastic caps but will be much better in the long run because you will not have to worry about scratches on the surface of your hardwood floors. These work the best on bar stools or dining room chairs which get moved around a lot and are susceptible to scratching the surface of your floors.
The final, and best thing in my opinion, thing to do is to purchase felt pads for the bottoms of all your furniture. I prefer felt pads to the other forms of protection because they are the softest, and they will fully cover the bottom of the foot without being noticeable at all to anyone who enters the home. These pads cost the most out of all the options, but they are well worth it and even allow you to slide your furniture across the floor without the worry of scratching anything. The felt pads work the best on any type of furniture (sofas, tables, chair, etc.) and will ease the stress and worry of scratching your floor's surface.
