subject: What Are Common Warts On Feet? [print this page]

Warts on feet are a type of bump on the skin with an infection that is caused by the human papilloma virus as are genital warts. They are however not dangerous and are normally not painful. You can have them removed, but many healthcare professionals do agree that if they are not bothering you and if you are not spreading them, that you should just leave them alone.

Most people have them removed for cosmetic reasons, but sometimes warts on feet can actually get in the way and affect you when you are walking and wearing certain kinds of shoes might hurt. The warts on feet are also called plantar warts.

These are normally about a centimeter in diameter and can easily be spread through sharing towels and the like. The most common spread though, will be to other parts of your body. You will usually get a few warts on your feet and you can transfer these to your hands, your other foot, and anywhere else you might touch.

The different ways to get rid of foot warts are the same for all other kinds of common warts. You can use cryotherapy which is when you freeze the wart using liquid nitrogen. This should only be done by a professional doctor. You can also get minor surgery if you have large warts, and you will find that laser surgery is also highly effective. Other that those, you can use a Cantharidin application, which is when you apply Cantharidin onto the warts and cover with a bandage. These then form blisters which are able to pull out the wart.

When you have warts on your feet it is very important to keep the area clean and free from other bacteria. You should also refrain from clipping your nails until the area is free from warts. This could otherwise result in the spread of the virus to other parts of the body. You should never pick at the warts and wearing socks at all times is also important.

You can use a home treatment as well to get rid of the virus. You can place wart patches which are soaked in salicylic acid onto the affect area as well. Then you should soak the area each day for about 15 to 20 minutes and use a nail file or pumice stone to flatten the area each time you remove the bandage and replace it.

When you have to get rid of warts on your feet you might find that you need a couple of weeks or even months. It can be a long an irritating process, but you will find that the warts do not come back as long as you have them removed properly and do not contract the virus again.

You can find the best wart removal doctors in your area and you should ask them what kind of procedure they do for their wart removal. You will find that most doctors recommend the cryotherapy because it can be done in their offices and you don't have to have surgery.
