After The Affair - Understand Your Thoughts

The discovery of an affair can almost destroy your mind. After the affair, the thought process of the affair victim is drastically affected and needs to be sorted out. This sorting out can only be done by the victim, but it needs to be done, nonetheless.

Understanding the thought process is hard, though. Here is what it normally looks like - When the affair is discovered, the victim is angry - they are thinking "Why me?" and "What was he / she thinking?" and then, "What should I do?" "Should I leave?" or "Should I ask them to leave?" and then finally, "Can anything be saved?" and "If I take him / her back, how can I be sure that they won't do it again?"

This thought process is necessary, but it is important not to focus on negative thoughts for too long because it just slows down the healing process. You must first say goodbye to painful thoughts and memories in order to heal.

Your primary focus after the affair should be to figure out why the affair happened. To be able to do this, you will need to talk to your spouse.

However, instead of asking them directly why they did it, you could simply ask them what went wrong instead. Try to find out what they are missing and in need of and you will find that you will start to see what led them to commit the infidelity.

Understanding the little things and learning to correct any flaws in your marriage is the key to getting through the many roadblocks that you will face after the affair. Also believe in yourself and understand that you are a nice person, and the affair was not your fault. No one deserves to be cheated on.

Being the victim of an affair brings about feelings of self doubt, and the victim feels unworthy.
