Lets talk about some fresh water fishing in the great outdoors basics for starters. Each state has a fishing season for the type of fishing you want to do. Along with specific time periods for different types of fish you also have fishing regulations or laws that you have to follow. These times and laws are in place to protect our and the fishes environment so follow them.
So you've done a little homework and you know your current states laws and regulations and you went out and now have a current fishing licence. Before you go out you need to ask yourself a question. Where am I going to go? Do you want to fish in a stream or a pond or lake. All three have their own special kind of fish that you are going after.
For instance if you want to fish in your local stream then more likely you need a trout setup. This has it's own type of fishing pole and method for fishing. Usally a shorter pole. Now fishing in a stream you are not just going to cast out your line and bait and just let it sit there. You can't in essence because of the current in the water. ( trout can't survive without running water) You are going to have to come up with a method or a system. For Instance, fish with a lure by focusing on spools of spinning water, or pick a specific target with a clear path and cast, then reel back in your line with a consistent method and motion.
You can fish with just a hook and a worm. This is the ideal way if you are a beginner. Now basically your just going to drop your worm and line in the water and let the current take out the bait. Don't be afraid to let a lot of line out. Iv let out close to 75 yards before and never lost my line. Then slowly reel it back in. You will increase your chances greatly by using this method or trout fishing.
