How Self Confidence Helps You at Work

Self confidence is one of the most useful things to learn in life. No one is born with it but you all have a good chance to understand what it is if you take a moment to remember what has gone well in your life and why. So, let us start with achievements; we are going to talk about failure later on.

Why did you apply for your current job? First because you needed something to do in your life; you graduated and the next logical step was to find a job that should allow you to put into practice the theoretical studies you had done. Then, because you found the position attractive and believed it would be perfect for you at the moment. You showed up at the interview and got the job.

You are hired now. What should the goals of a newly-hired person be? You have landed on a strange territory you hardly know the people you are working with but you soon will. It's time to gather your strength and show everybody there you are worthy of this job. Don't be afraid to show your knowledge and make yourself available whenever they ask for your help or opinion. When you were given the job, someone believed you would be useful to the team and what you must prove form now on is that they were right. Trust your knowledge and skills and everybody else will acknowledge your value.

Prove to your co-workers you can be a team-player. Be kind and considerate to your colleagues and respectful to your supervisor; let them see your part of the work matters and show them you really want to be useful. You won't be given the cold shoulder if you are open and nice to everybody you work with. As soon as you have gained their trust, you will be accepted in the family'. Positive thinking and an open heart will trigger a positive attitude from your team.

Don't be afraid to test your value. If the supervisor lets you do the donkey work for a while, it will be for your own good. He or she will see that hard work does not scare you and you are ready to take on more if needed. Don't worry; it will be just an exercise that might bring about a promotion later. Try learning as much as you can from your co-workers and if you think more study is needed, spend some time after work training. If you develop your skills and improve your knowledge even further, one day the boss will notice the results and most likely give you a promotion.

Your level of self confidence can be affected by what happens to you. If by any chance something goes wrong and you make a mistake, don't blame yourself too much. It's not the end of the world and you are not the first one to do that; you will certainly get a chance to mend your fault. Everybody makes mistakes but only strong people learn from their mistakes and move on. Be strong and confident that it won't happen a second time.
