Herbostill - Mini Essential Oil Distillation Apparatus

I have seen this technologyin the CSIR Technofest 2010, showcased by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi, at India International Trade Fair during November 14-27, 2010 New Delhi, India. I understand that "Mini Essential Oil Distillation Apparatus" was developed by Indian Himayan Bioresources Technology (IHBT), Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, India.

People use flowers and sweet smelling natural products like perfumes, fragrance, flavors derived from plant materials. These flowers and fragrance plants have been used on auspicious and religious ceremonies since ancient times. A large number of aromatic plants utilized from wild sources are cultivated for commercial use by farmers. This forms base for essential oil industry. It needs planting material and the distillation facility.

This Mini Essential Oil Distillation Apparatus is an indigenously designed, portable, cost effective and eco-friendly one. It is easy to handle, more stable & durable.Thissmall house hold distillation apparatus which can distill lighter & heavier essential oils.

It was constructed with SS-304 and Borosil glass material and the capacity of vessel volume is about 25 L and 50 L approximately. Batch Capacity is 4-5 kg and 8-10 kg plant material. Water distillation, water steam distillation and steam distillation can be done with this. The mode of heating is with LPG burner, Kerosene /Diesel burner or direct heat with agro waste, electrically heating and steam injection. All hydrodistillation methods can be applied.

I came to know this technology was already transferred to M/s Andel Equipment Pvt Ltd., Mohali, India. This patent was patented in many countries and many units sold. Literature was published in some publication like Industrial crops and products and J. Sci. Ind. Res.
