For some people, a home office is where they spend the majority of their day and so it really needs to be a place where you feel comfortable and not too stressed. Its often easy to forget however that it is still part of your home and need not be clinical and office like; it can also double as a spare room or quiet respite place for members of the family to get away and do homework or read a book.

Desks are desks, and they are quite generic. All high street retailers design them for practicality as opposed to style, so if you want something that blends in with your taste a little more than shop at one off furniture shops, or try looking in car boot sales and charity shops for rare finds. Old fashion bureaus look great and have the storage space you need t shut away your work when you have better things to do.

Modern chairs are also pretty functional, but be careful when opting for something a little more comfortable, as the chair will need to have adequate support if you are sitting at it for long periods of time, so you don't strain your back and neck.

Sort out the storage. Box files and folders may be helpful to you but will do nothing to the ambience of your home. Try fitting some cupboards with wood doors and hiding everything behind, or even big decorative boxes. Out of sight, out of mind.
