According to the WHO nearly 80 million adults in the US have some sort of cardiovascular disorder, 20 million people have diabetes and 70 percent are overweight while 30 percent are obese. These statistics are a cause for alarm if Americans are interested in living a comfortable life as they grow older. Unhealthy choices and disease and illnesses are major factors in reducing the life span of an individual. However, with the right knowledge and attitude most of these diseases can be avoided.

A few tips that will help you live longer:

1. Know thy enemy: Educate yourself about various illnesses and diseases that occur with aging. With the correct knowledge it will be easier for you to make healthy lifestyle choices. Even if this does not help you to live longer it will definitely help you have a better quality of life.

a. Well if you are reading this article then are already educating yourself. Keep doing this and learn as much as possible.

b. Visit your doctor to get a complete health check up.

2. More is not always better: Make small yet substantial changes in your daily life and practice moderation wherever possible. These small baby steps will lead to mammoth changes in the long term.

a. Understand your body clock and set a standard time to wake up and sleep every day.

b. Eat at least one healthy meal a day and exercise for at least 10 minutes every day.

3. Replace the bad ones with the good ones: We are all creatures of habit. All of us have both good and bad habits. However, small efforts to replace the bad habits with good habits will bring great benefits in the long run. With time and practice these good habits will feel as natural as the bad ones.
