Advice for Advanced Podcasters - How to Sell Your Podcasting Skills for Profit

Podcasters are realizing that there are certain aspects of producing a podcast that they enjoy and others that they completely hate. In fact, many have started to sell their skills not as podcasters, but as experts in skills that are related to podcasting.

Finding opportunities can take a bit of work, however, they do exist. Some podcasters get podcasting projects through word of mouth and from existing clients. If you don't currently have clients, here are some ways to tell others that your podcasting skills are for hire so you can make money based on what you already know.

Podcasting Directories - Some will have a section for people looking for podcasting work and those offering it.

Search Engines - Type in the keyword podcast jobs or podcasting job in your favorite search engine and visit the websites that pop up in the search results. Chances are, you will find a website where you can list yourself as a contractor for hire.

Freelance Websites - Guru.com, eLance.com and even Craigslist.org are great websites to use to post information about you and your podcasting skills.

Skill Specific Job Boards - For voice over artists, you can create a profile at voices.com or voices123.com and wait for the opportunities to come to you.

Launch a Blog or Podcast - I found a transcription company using this method. It can be quite effective, especially if you use it to dole out advice on how individuals and companies can use your podcasting skill in their day-to-day lives.

Attend Events and Network - If you want to work with podcasters, you have to go where podcasters are. Attending podcasting events and handing out business cards is an excellent way to raise your profile.

Cold Calling - I know, this is the most dreaded way to find new clients, however, it can be effective if done right. Put together a list of companies who offer podcasting services and call them to see if they could use your services.

Informational Meetings - Send an email to a podcaster who lives close to you or who will be attending the same event you'll be at and request to meet over coffee. Use the meeting to find out more about what podcasters need, rather than use it to talk endlessly about yourself. And don't forget to pay for his or her coffee.
