Is It A Sin To Eat For Pleasure?
Is It A Sin To Eat For Pleasure?

It is amazing to realize that presently, no one thinks of hedonism, you know the pursuit of the pleasure of the sense, as a sin and all that bad. Some decades ago, any act that certainly gives pleasure or sensual pleasure itself, is considered sinful and will be automatically frowned upon by the people of those times. Eventually, at the present, the word "sin" has also shed its not-so-good reputation and connotation and that has been becoming something positive, a thing that can entice people into something or doing something.

Moreover, when we refer to food, even the advertisements claim goodness that may be look at as sinful; this is in terms of the items that they were selling. You know, indulging on an ice cream, a bar of chocolate, a piece of cake. And sometimes, we, as consumers, become compelled by the idea that the mere thought of wanting to get them may be sinful and dangerous, but at the back of our mind is also the nagging thought that, hmm, it may be oh so well-worth it.

Now-a-days, food will definitely topped the list of guilty and admittedly proud hedonist. Food can be the source of this hedonistic pleasure that people often indulge in. come on, admit it; isn't right that every now and then, we would sneak into our room with bars of chocolates and then ravishingly savor them up? Afterwards will come the guilty feeling that oops! You had eaten too much! That your next thought would be is this: Is it really a sin to eat for pleasure?

Let us try to answer that.

Let's take chocolate as an example. It is obvious that very few things, if not nothing at all, encompass as of the use of our senses as even a single bite of chocolate, especially so the specialty ones. The color, rich brown, is very pleasing and attractive to the eye. What is even more pleasing is when it comes with the molded shape that really looks exquisite. The flavor is sweet, oh sinfully sin, bitter, milky, or even all of those combined. The scent will be mildly caffeinated and possessed that magic thing that seeped and entered our brain through the olfactory senses. This instantly takes you to the state of anticipation.

And when you finally decide to taste it, you will be drawn to an unimaginable world of different wonders. The taste, the texture which keeps on changing right inside your mouth, all these would be life-shattering unless you get a full bite. Obviously, the chocolate is basically an example of the greatest of all the sensual experiences.

But, is it really sinful to indulge on a bar of chocolate? Will you always be guilty when you take a bar and come out with the feeling that you are ready to die after it? Mind-boggling, isn't it? So when is it really considered a sin when we eat?

Eating can never become a sin. That is, wholesome and healthy eating. We need to eat in order that we may have the strength we need in performing our daily tasks. The only thing to consider here is that we do things in moderation. It has always been the key to all of life's offerings. If we take anything in excess, it will always result to something negative, something that we wont be needing in our lives.

So, go on and eat. Just be moderate and be good to yourself. Especially to your body. Anyway, you only got one to live with. So take care of it.
