How to Treat Shin Splints at Home

Shin splints are a term used to describe lower leg pain and in medical terminology it is known as medial tibial stress syndrome. If pain starts on the inside of the lower leg above the ankle and becomes worse when standing on the toes or rolling the ankle inward and becomes severe as the shin progresses, leading to inflammation , this symptom is called tibialis posterior .Don't get upset as Shin Splints can be treated at home.

The other symptoms which arise from causes such as tendinitis, stress fractures, compartment syndrome, high impact training, excessive training, poor technique or biomechanical problems, standing for long periods and wearing high heeled shoes are tibialis anterior and bone shin splints.

Diagnosis is done by taking patient history, physical examination, radiology, measuring the pressure within the compartments, magnetic resonance imaging and high-resolution x-ray computed tomography scans. Understanding, identifying and treating the underlying problems are necessary for choosing appropriate treatment.

This condition can be effectively treated at home. As sufficient rest needed for this injury to heal, take rest to allow the injury to heal. Apply ice in the early stage, particularly when it is not painful. Stretch the muscles of lower leg in the case of tibialis posterior which is associated with shin splints. Wearing specially fitted footwear improves the healing phase of injury.

Elevate your foot using pillows to decrease swelling and do toe raises, calf raises and inner and outer thigh raises to speed up recovery. By following these instructions properly one can easily get rid of shin splints for good.
