subject: When You Want To Be A Part Of It [print this page]

Technology has indeed made doing many things easy for most people. It has bridged the gap that used t exist between cultures. Today, almost everything that you need can easily be accessed with just a click of a button. Even in the way we make people notice us, technology is already playing a part.

If the old days called for attending plays, workshops and seminars for people to get agents to notice them, nowadays, all you have to do is make a recording of yourself, upload it and share it online. After that, you can safely seat back and wait for people to see the video you have uploaded. If your video is something that is really unique, then you could expect one or two agents to start noticing you.

For some, however, finding an acting agent has to be done the old-fashion way by doing a lot of legwork. Although this might seem to be the hard way, it is can get you more guaranteed results than posting your video online.

One of the things that you need to do is secure acting certifications from various training centers. This can prove to the different acting agencies that you have what it takes to take on various roles. Make sure that you approach only acting agencies that are in line with your preferred field. Keep in mind that some agencies specialize in commercials and TV ads while some focus more on film productions.

Build your portfolio. You would need to have multiple copies of your headshots which you can submit to your acting agency. Your portfolio, however, needs to be more than just headshots. Keep copies of your certification and make sure that you write down any acting jobs that you have done before. Your acting agency would, in turn, send these to their clients whenever they have requirements for people matching your qualification. Make sure that, whoever your acting agent is, he or she should be someone whom you have a good rapport with.

Keep in mind that acting agencies would not require any upfront payment for you but would ask for a percentage commission for any project that they would be able to successfully pass to you.
