Past 5 top small cars of the year by TopGear

In case you missed it at your local mini dealer, Scotland and the rest of the UK- including Kent may have forgotten the previous crowned Kings. So here is a brief run-down of the past five TopGear rated 'Small cars of the year'.

Starting with 2006, the show stopping fun, small and stylish Mini Cooper S stormed the UK and Scotland automotive sales market ensuring that the much loved British symbol became the hottest small car on the market. Sales rose to astonishing levels and the well-deserved winner was a distinguishable icon of the 60's- compact, feisty, and hugely efficient.

In 2007, the once again true British car icon- Mini- takes the top spot for small car of the year again with the Mini Clubman. Set apart from the range of Minis available, the Clubman is the first supermini estate to be classed within the Small car category. Distinctive, dominating and yet still compact- the Mini Clubman is the perfect choice for the young, fashionista.

The Toyota IQ took crowning glory in TopGears 'Small car of the year' for 2008. The agile, compact small car is both unique and radical- using augmented reality within its adverts to capture the hearts of the nation- and it did with rising sales interest and a crown at the end by automotive royalty, TopGear.

Just last year, the new Ford Fiesta hit the top spot for Small car of the year, 2009. The sportier, updated, modern take on the original Fiesta was taken to new engineering heights, with a more streamlined exterior look and funky, well-equipped interior.

This year for the first time ever, the new Citroen DS3 is awarded Small car of the year by TopGear. Oozing versatility that cannot be beaten for first class engineering, the king of the road 'peoples champion' is French car manufacturer Citroen. Kent and the rest of the UK have been waiting with baited breath for the result and are delighted that this years winner is the new Citroen DS3.
