subject: Wireless Burgler Alarms: The Plusses [print this page]

The leaves out side stir slightly as a cool light breeze touches them. The sunlight is untainted. The sky is perfectly blue. Overnight a storm blew through, and now she relaxes in front of me with her laptop, her sleepy blue eyes glancing from keyboard to screen, her eyelashes brushing her gaze. In that moment, she is the essence of fate unfulfilled.

Several months prior, Ellen Frisk decided to start looking for protection. She had started to feel less and less secure in her neighborhood after a rash of break-ins, and one particularly violent incident that happened a few houses down. Even though the police were more active the crime still continued unfortunately.

Unfortunately her first choice wasn't doable. Her complex would not allow dogs. It would have been difficult to care for the animal in an apartment anyway. The next best thing was some type of alarm system, but she wasn't sure where to start.

Ademco Alarm Systems, or wired alarms. Each has advantages over the other. Each type has similar features and capabilities, but unfortunately the wired alarm systems were more difficult to install. Her property management company wasn't exactly responsive, and she didn't think she'd be able to get them to help her run wires in her walls. Even though it would have probably been possible to just run the wires along her walls, she didn't like how that would impact the appearance. With that, it was now wireless for her.

Now she just needed to decide on a brand. There are a number of choices available, between Ademco Lynx, Napco Security Systems, DSC Alarm Systems. It wasn't an easy choice. DSC offers several services, such as home monitoring which is great for seniors, a panic button that lets you into your home's door, and even a fire alarm system. Ademco has a state of the art keypad system that allows you to keep in touch with the police if need-be, and also has a monitoring solution. In the end though, Napco turned out to the the clear choice due to it's IQ Profiler system to stop false alarms. Ellen is a cat owner. Because the alarm system can distinguish between cat and intruder, this made the choice easy.

A few days back, Ellen had her mouth taped with duct tape by someone who had broken into her home while she slept at night. She woke up and struggled with him. He grasped her by her arms, and she kicked. It was just enough to break free. She pulled off the tape, and ran. She heard her cat screech as the intruder tripped over him. He overpowered her, and the rest was a blur.

Fortunately none of it happened though. The reason is because before he ever got inside the apartment, I was watching over her and he new that. Watching over her furniture, her possessions, and even her cat, and now she sits in front of me on this beautiful morning quietly catching up on her email.
