Bathtub singing has men hooked
Surprisingly it isn't just women who think Julia Roberts belting out Prince is the top bathroom movie scene. It seems British men are in touch with their feminine side, placing it as the third best movie overall.
Horror films go down the plughole
Bathroom movie scenes in horror films aren't proving popular; What Lies Beneath, A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Grudge didn't even make it into the top 10. And, despite Robert Pattinson's ever growing popularity, the weepy' Remember Me, where Tyler Hawkins (Robert Pattinson) and Ally Craig (Emilie de Ravin) have a water fight in the shower, achieved less than one per cent of the votes (0.8%).
Golden oldies versus modern classics
The over 45s chose a golden oldie and the youngsters a modern classic as their favourite movie bathroom scene. Bucking the trend set by younger generations (24-45), who all voted for Pretty Woman, those aged 45 and above chose the classic Psycho shower scene as the best in movie history. The youngest age group polled (18-24) voted The Hangover as their favourite, Psycho didn't even come in the top three with this age group, indicating that classic films are lost on the youth of today.
Classic horror cleans up with Scots
Scots voted the classic horror film Psycho as the best bathroom movie scene whilst those in England opted for Pretty Woman. In addition Ireland also veered away from the norm with the Republic of Ireland choosing American Beauty and Northern Ireland The Hangover as their favourites.
Film expert James King said: "As soon as the bathroom door closes, the cinematic possibilities are endless. It's where we're at our most uninhibited - as Vivien (Julia Roberts) shows, in the Number 1 choice, with her unique interpretation of 'Kiss'. This has come up top because everyone's had a sing-song in the bathroom - the acoustics are just so great.
"Most of all the poll shows that we like a laugh, especially younger viewers who voted for side splittingly funny The Hangover' as No.1. What we get up to in the privacy of a bathroom conjours up a multitude of gags because we don't think anyone is watching us. We'll happily try out inappropriate beauty products (What Women Want, Home Alone) or let our minds wander when we should be focusing on zipper technique (There's Something About Mary). In the bathroom we're utterly stripped bare, totally ourselves - and that's hilarious to watch" he continued.
Roger Crabb, Mira Showers, commented: "It's surprising the classic shower scene in Psycho only came second being beaten by Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. It seems the British public is a fan of light hearted bathtub singing rather than blood curdling shower screams.
"What the research does show is that the bathroom clearly plays a pivotal role in cinema, with so many memorable scenes taking place in this room. It's when characters can be seen at their most relaxed and this paves the way for some truly unforgettable movie moments."
