In a busy space like a family room, add blue and green shades. This will bring calm to a room that is normally a hub of activity.
In a neutral room, choose a patterned carpet and match it with patterned pillows or throws for the sofa to bring the whole design together. If you then move house its much easier to keep the design simple without having to redecorate!
If you get sick of your rooms quickly, then use a neutral based wall paper and swap accessories regularly. Lamp shades, rugs and pillows are in expensive and relatively easy to replace, saving you money when you get itchy to have a redesign.
If you want to use stripes then be brave, but stick to one wall so it doesn't overpower the whole room.
If you have an all white room, add hot colours like pinks and oranges to really add impact and pull out your features, without having to do anything as drastic as wallpaper the walls!
