THE WORST THINGS to Say to Naturally Skinny People (and tips from them...)

OK, I'm a thin girl. I know. 5'11 and 119 lbs. The thing people just refuse to realize is that it's natural - I don't have hyperthyroidism and I've been like this all my life. I eat junk all day long, and I don't exercise. (During gym classes, I've had clinically obese people outrun me...so realize right now that skinny doesn't mean fit.)

To be fair, there are some coincidental things that I do that may contribute to my thinness, but you only get to see what they are if you promise to read though this part first!

Anyway, I'm exceedingly sick and tired of people thinking it's OK to tell me how skinny I am, how I'm a twig/rake/rail, frail, teeny, anorexic, skeletor, and all these other names that make me ashamed of my body.

So I'm writing this article so you know how your words may be affecting skinny people - like me. Below are comments I hear ALL the time, to my face by complete strangers and friends alike, and in parentheses are smart aleck retorts I wish I could say out loud. This is tongue-in-cheek, but based on reality! For me at least.

"Oh, guys don't like skinny girls." (Nor do they like naggy critical ones.)

"Do you eat?" (Yes, but I only eat air. Diet air. And I make sure to throw it up afterwards the minute you turn your head.) This is only sarcasm by the way. :-)

"You're so skinny, you'll break in half!" (Er, no. YOU'RE the one that's about to be broken in half if you don't shaddup.)

"You know, guys don't like skinny chicks." (I'd hope not. Most guys I'm after prefer humans.)

"Real women have curves!" (Cause you know, I was actually created in a science lab.)

"You need a cheese steak, hon." (I know, wanna buy me one?)

If I'm eating something, I'll get: "Bulimia is a serious disease. Please be aware of the health risks." (Lady, there are also health risks to getting in my business.)

And if I get called Paris Hilton *one more time*....

But if I ever dared to even SUGGEST that a woman might be a "bit too 'curvy'", goodness! Then I'd be a threat to pre-teens everywhere, the bad guy. It should be just as bad to degrade one's body for being thin.

As for my "tricks" to staying thin, which I don't even do on purpose...it's funny. I still get annoyed when people ask me to prescribe them diets and exercises just because I'm thin. At the same time though, over the last year, I've realized some interesting "things" that I noticed a LOT of naturally skinny people do without realizing it (myself included).

There's no way I could even describe these "tricks" to people without sounding weird, crazy or just have them dismiss me as a crazy loon. However, I lay out the tricks here:

http://www.skinnyobservations.blogspot.com

These are the things that I'm trying to STOP doing, since they're probably what caused me to be so thin.

So if you really want to learn any "secrets" of the naturally skinny people, go there. But if you're commenting on our bodies just to be mean, please know and understand that insults about being too skinny is just as much as an insult as anything else.
