This kind of laser eye surgery is very similar with LASIK in the process of using the excimer laser, and the only difference between these two kind of eye surgery -- LASIK and LASEK is that in the process prior to laser used, LASEK only use the outer layer of the cornea to make a flap. Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is a kind of the earlier laser eye surgery technique that is introduced before LASIK and LASEK, which is much similar with the eye surgery of LASEK. With the development of eye surgery technology, other laser eye surgery appears, such as Epi-LASIK.
Besides refractive surgery, other eye surgery may also use lasers, for instance, vitreo-retinal surgery, facial rejuvenation procedure and laser pupillomydriasis.
