If you have a room in your home that needs a little brightening up and simply can't afford to completely redecorate it, making small changes can, if done correctly, change the entire look of your room for only a few dollars. Decorative area rugs are one way to brighten up, change your room's looks and even add warmth and glamor to an otherwise boring room. For those of you who want to use decorative area rugs to improve a room in your home but, feel unsure exactly how to make these rugs work for you here are a few tips on how these rugs can be used in different rooms of your home.

Entry way

With the downsizing of homes today, the entry way often presents special problems for the home decorator. Many times these rooms are simply too small and often look cramped but, empty. Using a decorative area rug in your entry way can actually make this miniature room look larger and provide a welcoming touch to people entering your home.

A small round rug placed in the center of the room will actually make your entryway look larger. Your best choice of a rug for this area is to choose a rug that has a background that closely matches the color of your walls. If the walls are plain, then choose a rug with a few bright accents to make your entryway look brighter and more inviting. If the wall decor is patterned then choosing a plain rug or one with a just a thin stripe going around it, that matches one of the colors in the pattern is the best choice.

Living Room

The living room is one room that an area rug can really make a huge difference even changing the entire look of a room. There are also a wide variety of ways you can use decorative area rugs in the living room. You can choose a large rectangle or square rug that will go under all your furniture while leaving the edges of the room free. This will give your living room a cozy look and feel.

You can also choose to use a smaller rectangle rug just under the coffee table or in front of the fireplace to provide an area of interest and bring out the color in your furniture.

Kids Rooms

If you have wooden or tile floors throughout your home then having a bedside rug for your kid's room next to the bed will make getting out of bed on those cold winter mornings just a little bit easier. Kid's area rugs should not only match the decor of your child's room but, also match your child's personality.

There are a variety of different shaped area rugs that will make your child's room come alive. There are baseball and football shaped rugs, small rectangle rugs, and even rugs shaped like buses, trains and trucks. Depending on your child's age and interest there is a decorative area rug that will meet almost any child's approval.

When choosing a rug for any room in your home, take into consideration the size of the room, the decor and where you plan to use the rug. Then choose the colors and designs that will match or harmonize with the room's dcor, add a little color or simply a different texture.
