subject: Where Can You Get Free Spanish Lessons? [print this page]

There is absolutely nothing wrong with looking for a free Spanish course to avoid paying for something you may not enjoy and eventually stop...money down the drain!

There are a wide array of freely accessible learning material on the internet that will definitely help you take your first steps into learning Spanish.

There are many Spanish courses that offer a free mini course and these are great for testing out those specific courses. By testing the water, so to speak, you will also find out if learning Spanish is going to be for you, remember though, you are learning a new language...it won't be a stroll in the park!

One of the best providers of Free Spanish Lessons on the internet is the UK's BBC website. Here you will find everything from a Spanish soap opera called 'Mi Vida Loca', to Spanish Worksheets and grammar information.

All of the BBC's online material is designed to accompany the various BBC TV Spanish Coursebooks that you obviously have to purchase.

If because of your geographic location you are unable to get the coursebooks, don't worry. There are many video clips on the site that still make this an exceptional site for wetting your appetite and gaining a good understanding of basic Spanish with or without the accompanying coursebooks

The other point you should take note of is that the BBC are teaching Castilian Spanish, which is the form of Spanish spoken in Spain itself, and it is also Castilian that is used as the base language for all other Spanish dialects and regional variations.

If you are in a hurry to learn Spanish, a suggestion would be to initially bypass learning grammatical Spanish and concentrate on FREE Spanish lessons that provide instant studying of conversational Spanish, and a good choice would be to try out the mini course offered by Rocket Spanish.

There is no argument that there are a number of sites that bring various free offerings to the table and given time you could compile a relatively complete basic Spanish course that would cost you nothing.

The question is whether you want to give up a great deal of your time compiling all this segmented information or not?

FREE Spanish courses will generally only cover learning Spanish to a very Basic Spanish level, which in all fairness is a level of Spanish that can be achieved relatively quickly anyway!

By all means test the water but once tested and a decision is made to learn Spanish properly it is wise to invest in a good program.
