subject: Easy Plumbing Solutions For Your Home [print this page]

Plumbing problems are some of the things that can instantly turn your day from bad to worse. It is however such a relief knowing that you can be able to solve some of these problems yourself. One of the minor and also the commonest problem is when air gets stuck in the pipes. This problem normally causes the pipes to make noise and even vibrate as water tries to pass through them. Instead of a steady flow, the water will come out in quick spurts. Solving this problem is commonly referred to as bleeding your pipes so as to stop the noise and vibrations.

Bleeding the pipes can be as easy as leaving all the water faucets in your house open for a short period of time. Since the water will be coming out at a higher velocity than normal, the air will be pushed out of the pipes. Since the air may also be trapped in the pipes supplying water to the toilets, it is also advisable to flush your toilets severally while the water faucets are running. This way, any air that may be stuck in the lines will be gushed out.

Once you notice that the water is now coming out in a steady flow and not in quick spurts, you can turn off the water faucets and stop flushing your toilets. The water faucets have to be turned off starting with the one nearest to your home's main supply. The toilets should also be flushed in the same order.

Most of these problems are caused by parts of the system that are worn out. Worn out parts can be replaced making the solution to your problem very easy. Sometimes, foreign materials may block your pipes, making your sewages and toilets to flood. If the blockage is not very deep in the system, one may use a plunger to unblock the pipes.

Replacing parts that are already worn out may prove to be an expensive venture depending on the type and quality of your system. However, if these parts are not replaced, they may end up causing further damage to other parts that were otherwise not in a bad condition in the first place. Seals and washers are such parts that mostly wear out easily because they are exposed to pressure, depending on the water faucet's brand and quality.

White vinegar comes in handy in solving scaled shower heads. People who live in areas where they use hard water are the ones who are commonly faced with this problem. This is because of the salts that are found in this kind of water that tend to clog the openings. After detaching the face plate and soaking the shower head in white vinegar, you can use a nail brush or toothpick to remove the scales that will have grown loose by then.

Plungers and wire snakes are some of the must-have home equipment in order to be ready for unforeseen future problems with your system. If it is not convenient for one to buy these for one reason or another, one can be able to hire them when the need arises.

With these helpful tips in hand, minor plumbing problems should not worry you much in the future. It is not wise to hire someone to do something you would have otherwise done yourself.
