subject: Simple Ways To Prevent Excessive Sweating [print this page]

There are simple methods by which one can be able to prevent excessive sweating. One cannot underscore the importance of avoiding to be in this situation of having too much sweat because it can really be an embarrassing problem if left untreated. The problem can be more humiliating if you are a woman or if your line of work or profession requires you to be in the public eye all of the time.

The problem of hyperhidrosis is typically characterized by profuse sweating of the underarms, hands and feet compared to other areas in the body. This condition can occur suddenly and without warning for most people, regardless of activity or stress situations. Too good that it does not happen while a person is in his sleep.

There is no established connection between being anxious or active because this condition can also happen at times when the person is not active or anxious. This is because of the autonomic nature of the sympathetic nervous system which is an involuntary one compared to the motoric or sensory nervous systems which are considered as part of the voluntary systems.

Sweating profusely not only makes you feel uncomfortable and look unkempt, but it also makes you smell unpleasant as well. Having body odor only doubles the problem of hyperhidrosis and can really be embarrassing when you are in a meeting with important people or are in a really crowded place such as the subway or bus.

The good news is that there are easy ways and simple remedies that you can try in order to prevent excessive sweating. Some people like to use topical treatments, which are simply creams or ointments which you can purchase over the counter in many drugstores and beauty bars. These are medications which you can apply directly on your skin. They no longer have to be prescribed by a physician and majority of these treatments have become popular by word of mouth advertising. Topical treatments work on excessive sweating problems by closing your sweat ducts so that excess perspiration do not reach the surface of the skin. In really extreme cases, a numbing agent is applied and injections are made on the affected areas.

Other people on the other hand prefer using antiperspirants to address their sweating problems. The ingredients used in such products are often the same as what you can find in most commercially available underarm deodorants. What makes these products work is their aluminum chloride content which also works by blocking your sweat ducts. However, you really have to be careful of other ingredients and chemicals which may be present in your antiperspirants. They may turn out to be not right for your body chemistry and only end up as allergens or irritants and not a solution for hyperhidrosis.
