2010 College Football Predictions
2010 College Football Predictions

Each year before the college football season, there are some tough calls to make on which teams will win their respective conferences. In this article, I have taken the liberty of picking all of the conference champions to help you with your futures wagers. Without any further ado, here are my 2010 college football predictions. Looking for a place to bet on college football this season? Bet your college football picks at Sportsbook.com where our readers can get $100 in free bonus cash!

SEC Champion: Alabama Crimson Tide The Tide have an excellent opportunity to win the SEC and to get back in the BCS championship game. Florida will still be a formidable foe in the SEC East, and Arkansas is on the rise in the SEC West, but I love what Bama has coming back, and I love the new guys head coach Nick Saban has brought in. Saban wasted no time hitting the recruiting trail hard once he arrived in Alabama, and it has paid off. In just three seasons with the Tide, he already has a national championship under his belt. He is 26-2 the last seasons and a perfect 16-0 in SEC regular season games dating back to 2007. NCAA football odds makers have listed Alabama at +600 to win the BCS title.

Big 12 Conference Champion: Oklahoma Sooners The 2009 season did not turn out the way the Sooners had hoped with Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Sam Bradford going down. But the good news is that a disappointing campaign should leave Oklahoma burning with desire. Plus, Bradford's injury allowed quarterback Landry Jones to gain some great experience. Jones threw for 3,198 yards and 26 touchdowns with 14 interceptions, and I expect him to quickly blossom into a star this season. Winning the Big 12 will come down to beating Texas, and likely Nebraska in the Big 12 title game. The Sooners weren't able to beat either of those teams last season, but with Colt McCoy and Ndamukong Suh now in the NFL, I like Oklahoma's chances. Oklahoma is listed at +500 to win the BCS title.

Big 10 Conference Champion: Ohio State Buckeyes Led by quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who is the best dual-threat signal caller in college football, I like the Buckeyes' chances of winning the Big Ten, and, perhaps, even the BCS championship. A late November matchup in Iowa City with the Iowa Hawkeyes is a potential stumbling block, but the Buckeyes will have the better players on the field. Look for the Buckeyes to win their sixth straight Big Ten title in 2010. Ohio State is listed at +600 to win the BCS title.

Pac-10 Conference Champion: USC Trojans It's been bad news this offseason for the Trojans, getting hit hard by a two-year bowl ban and scholarship reductions, but these things should only fuel the fire of new head coach Lane Kiffin. Currently, USC is still the most talented team in the Pac-10, especially when you look at the key pieces that contenders like Cal and Oregon will be missing. Jahvid Best will be playing on Sunday's this season and Jeremiah Masoli won't be playing at all after getting hit with a suspension for burglary. With no bowl to play for, the Trojans will be laying it all out of the line to win the Pac-10.

ACC Champion: Virginia Tech Hokies Florida State could contend from the ACC Atlantic, and Miami from the ACC Coastal, but I look for the Hokies to be out for blood in 2010 after a rare missed trip to the conference title game. Virginia Tech has rattled off six straight 10-win seasons, and a seventh is practically a given. Yes, the defense loses eight starters, but Frank Beamer has an excellent scheme and has talented players ready to step in. That means that the Hokies should finish in the top 12 nationally in both total and scoring defense for a seventh straight season. Virginia Tech is listed at +1500 to win the BCS title.

Big East Conference Champion: Pittsburgh Panthers Cincinnati was dealt a major blow with Brian Kelly leaving for Notre Dame, and West Virginia hasn't been quite the same since Rich Rodriguez departed for Michigan. That's why I like the most cheap wow goldstable team in the conference, the Pitt Panthers, to win the league. Pitt finished 10-3 last season, and those three losses came by a combined 11 points. It was Pitt's best season in nearly 30 years, but Dave Wannstedt is not satisfied. A tough non-conference slate may derail any national title hopes, but it will likely have the Panthers ready to rip up the Big East. Pittsburgh is listed at +4000 to win the BCS title.

Mountain West Conference Champion: TCU Horned Frogs The Horned Frogs return 16 starters from a team that went 12-1 last season. Utah and BYU should once again be formidable, but the Frogs are the most complete team in the league. Defense is a given at TCU, and the offense should be every bit as good as it was last year when it set a school record for points scored. TCU is listed at +1500 to win the BCS title.

WAC Champion: Boise State Broncos With 18 starters back from a team that recorded a perfect 14-0 season, capped off by a Fiesta Bowl win over TCU, the Broncos have a chance to do something even more special in 2010. But they will still need some help to get to the BCS championship game because their strength of schedule in the WAC is so weak. That's why they have decided to make the move to the Mountain West Conference starting next season. Boise State is listed at +700 to win the BCS title.

Conference USA Champion: Houston Cougars With Case Keenum under center for one more year, it ensures another season of offensive fireworks for the Cougars. Keenum led the most prolific offense in college football last year, one that led the nation with 42.2 points per game and 563.4 yards of total offense per game. Houston is listed as the field at +10000 to win the BCS title.

Mid-American Champion: Northern Illinois Huskies Defense wins championship, and that's why I like the Huskies to win the MAC. NIU returns nine starters from a unit that led the conference in total defense. A challenging non-conference schedule with games against Iowa State, Illinois and Minnesota should have the Huskies prepared to terrorize the weaker competition in their league. Northern Illinois is listed as the field at +10000 to win the BCS title.

Sun Belt Conference Champion: Troy Trojans The Trojans finished a perfect 8-0 in Sun Belt play last season, and there is a good chance they can run the table again in 2010. The Trojans have won four straight Sun Belt championships, and with an offense capable of lighting up the scoreboard, they should be right in the hunt for a fifth straight. Troy is listed as the field at +10000 to win the BCS title.
