Though the Lanier LD-015 dates all the way back to 2004, it still could potentially serve as a worthwhile desktop copy machine, as long as one's demands weren't too strenuous. With fairly mediocre specifications all around, the unit is one of the most forgettable out there. That being said, it is still, technically, perfectly capable of making a decent copy.
With a CCD array image sensor and laser beam scanning, the Lanier LD-015 uses digital copy technology to pull off some tricks that analog machines are incapable of. The unit comes complete with a built in automatic document feeder, which is convenient, but its print speed of a maximum 15 pages per minute is fairly disappointing. Its first copy time of 7.5 seconds, however, is fairly reasonable. Electronic sorting comes standard with the device as well, though rotate sorting is not available with such a small unit.
Also coming standard is fully automatic duplexing which is great for reducing costs by cutting down paper usage by virtually half, and also for providing a very professional look and feel to two sided material. Standard memory for the Lanier LD-015 tops out at 16 MBs, but the Lanier LD-015f model comes complete with 64 MBs and the Lanier LD-015spf has 192 MBs. The base model is expandable in memory via a single card slot.
Standard paper supply comes in the form of a disappointingly small, single 250 sheet paper drawer which is paired with a 100 sheet bypass tray. The Lanier LD-015's output capacity is also 250 sheets, which is more than substantial. The copy machine comes with preset reduction and enlargement ratios of 93%, 78%, 65%, 129%, and 155%. With preset reduction and enlargement settings, users can quickly zoom and shrink their input material with a rough estimate, but if precise control is a must, 1% increments can be selected to maximum degrees of 50 200%.
Though the Lanier LD-015 is an elderly, simplified unit by today's standards, it does have a small list of special features that include a photo mode, automatic start, scan once / copy many, combine copy, and up to 50 user codes that help to keep data secure. While the base model Lanier LD-015 does not come with a fax modem, the Lanier LD-015f and Lanier LD-015spf MFCs include complete faxing features that operate off a 33.6 kpbs G3 fax modem. Faxes can be scanned in less than 2 seconds and transmitted at a rate of about 3 seconds per page.
The Lanier LD-015 also has a backup memory that can last up to 1 hour without any power source, and features faxing features such as group dialing and dual access. 2 MBs of built in fax memory allows for up to 160 pages worth of data to be stored within the unit itself so, while the Lanier LD-015 is busy printing or copying, it can still receive an incoming fax and print when the resources are available. While this dated machine is not ideal, it should still prove useful in some work environments.
