subject: New Ford Fiesta Models [print this page] Ford has been producing the Fiesta since 1980, making the model over 30 years old. Over the years the Fiesta has evolved to suit its target demographic.
The sixth generation Ford Fiesta is the current model and has been in production since 2008, it is available as a 3 door and 5 door hatchback as well as a small van derivative.
To satisfy the need of young petrol heads Ford has always produced a sporty Fiesta, sport models within the Fiesta line up historically have consisted of; XR2, S(Sport), XR2i, Si, RS Turbo, RS1800, Zetec S, Zetec RS, and ST. All of these were powered by a range of engines from the Ford Kent engine to the Ford Duratec engine.
Towards the end of 2011 Ford revealed the Fiesta RS World Rally Car that will be replacing the Focus RS WRC in 2011. The new Fiesta rally car is based on the Fiesta S2000 rally car, with an engine related to Ford's production 1.6-litre, Ecoboost motor. This modified engine uses direct fuel injection and turbo charging, the car features four-wheel drive as well.
Reports have recently surfaced about a very sporty and quick looking Fiesta doing laps at the Nurburgring in Germany. The model tested is rumoured to be the new Ford Fiesta ST, it definitely looks like the ST and would fill the current gap for a sporty Fiesta.
The suspected Fiesta ST features much bigger inlets in the front and a Focus RS-style diffuser at the back with a couple of chunky exhaust pipes. Also seen on the testing car was the de rigueur body kit with a lip spoiler, roof spoiler and side skirts. The wheels appeared larger with very low profile tyres, from what can be seen of the inside, the sport bucket seats stood out the most.
