Based on a White House fact sheet, the National Debt Relief Program will include the Hope for Homeowners project. This initiative will enable homeowners to keep up with mortgages by increasing their home equity through principle "write downs." Aside from that, credit cardholders are given more protection by regulating certain policies that involve reducing interest rates and non-application of certain charges.

The Credit Card Accountability and Disclosure Act provides a wider security blanket for credit cardholders, limiting their issuers options with regards to charging them with rates that they do not announce to their clients. Such act will definitely prevent the rise of credit card debt in the long run.

Also put into effect is the Fraud Enforcement Recovery Act, a law signed by President Barack Obama in May 2009, which gives full authority to the Department of Justice to pursue and prosecute crimes against mortgages or commodities fraud. Also, the act will allow the Justice Department to take legal action against those who have voiced opposition with regards to the government assistance programs of the United States that were enforced during the economic crisis.

Mike Empey, field representative for Rep. Jim Matheson of Utah, stated that the National Debt Relief Initiative is a big help to companies who are nearing shutdown and are no longer able to pay money to their workers.
