Many people are committing suicide because of a feeling of emptiness. It is an awful thing to feel so alone and depressed that you believe you cannot cope with life. God never made us to be alone. Loneliness can cause much pain, sorrow and despair. Because of the desire to be loved and accepted, people do various things, some of which is to their hurt. Drugs of varied kinds, and unwanted sexual activity can many times be linked to the desire to feel wanted and needed. We all desire to be loved and accepted, and sadly, many of us are not receiving this acceptance from those closest to us. So we try to fulfill this desire to feel wanted in other ways, even if we have to suffer needlessly to get it.
You do not have to spend your life trying to get people to like you. And you do not have to live alone, feel alone and be alone as you journey through life. You can find genuine love, acceptance and a sense of belonging, which will even cause others to admire and respect you. Here are a few tips to receiving true love, worth and acceptance:
1. Realize that you are somebody special.
God made you, and the fact that there is no one in the universe like you, means that you are unique.
2. God loves you dearly.
The Creator of the Universe proved your worth and value to Him when He sent His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, in the flesh, to die and shed His precious blood to wash away your sins and make you His child. He so wanted you that He paid the ultimate price of His life to have you as a part of His family. Think about this: He suffered and died for you and rose again, just so that you could receive Him and live for Him, without the guarantee that you would choose Him. This is real love. There was no strings attached. You still have the power of choice. But, He did what He did for you hoping that you would love Him back, not as a matter of force, but as a matter of will. Real love never a matter of force and abuse.
3. God accepts you.
The Eternal God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth accepts you. He wanted you. So He came to earth, through His Son, Jesus and gave His life just to have you. This makes you a treasure. In His Eyes you are a gem, a priceless jewel which He desires. You are, in His Words, "The apple of His Eyes." This means you are His desire and delight. If God feels this way about you, this means you are special. So, stop feeling sorry for yourself. You are loved by God. Now, love yourself.
4. God will never leave you alone.
When you give your life to Jesus Christ, as Lord and Savior, God gives you a promise which you really need to take to heart. He says that "He will never leave you, nor forsake you." This means that you are never, ever alone. You always have His company. Even when you cannot feel Him, He is there. He promised that He would be there and God never breaks a promise.
When you really understand these facts and receive the love of God for you, His acceptance of you will enable you to walk with confidence that you are somebody. And when you rise and aspire to that somebody you are, you will attract friends who desire to have that same kind of assurance. You will also attract those who already have it, because like begets like.
So refuse to be down, discourage and depressed any longer. Realize that God loves you and receive His love for you. Peace, joy and acceptance will flood your life.
