subject: Can Courier's Pick Up Packages At My House? [print this page]

When most people use a courier company, they are using them through the proper channels of their business. However, for one reason or another, there is a growing demand to have couriers make pickups at locations that are not businesses. Some people now want their New Jersey delivery service to make a package pickup from their home instead. It is possible to have pickups made at your home. However, in order to receive this service you will have to look for a courier that specifically offers it.

The service that you are looking for is typically called "residential pickup" or "residential courier" service. This means that the courier company does send vehicles to residential locations to make pickups. Most couriers will make deliveries to a private home address, but it is slightly rarer to find some that will also make pickups from those locations.

If a courier is willing to make a pickup from your home, they may have some requirements before they will do so. For instance, there are some courier companies that will only make pickups from homes for account holders. For instance, if you work for a company that also has business pickups, they may come make a pickup at your home. Or, if you run a home based business and are going to need regular home pickups, they may let you open your own account. Some couriers will pickup for anyone, but it is always important that you check their policies before you try to order service.

The other thing that you may run into is a courier company that charges you a fee in order to make a pickup at your home. This isn't totally uncommon but you should make sure that you don't overpay for this type of service. A small fee is alright, but your delivery shouldn't suddenly be several times more expensive than a normal pickup.

Remember if you are going to arrange for home pickup of a package that it may take longer than usual to get a pickup made. That is because most courier companies do not have heavy routes running through residential areas. Most of their drivers will be busy in the business areas of your city, so it may take more time to find one that can be dispatched to a residential area to make a pickup. The courier should be able to provide you with a time quote when you place your order.
