subject: Ford Supply British Gas [print this page] Ford will be delivering 403 Transit vans to British Gas, 343 of these will be the medium wheelbase (MWB) transit models and the other 40 will be all wheel drive (AWD) models. British Gas has opted for Ford Transit vans to strengthen its fleet as the UK prepares for another freezing cold winter.
These new Ford Transits in London will boost the British Gas fleet to over 1,000 Ford Transits. The new agreement between Ford and British Gas is part of a vehicle replacement programme for the gas company so that its engineers can continue to make on average 10,000 service calls every day.
British Gas aim to strategically distribute the new Transit vans across the UK to help achieve even better attendance rates at homes and businesses suffering gas and heating problems, during the adverse weather conditions.
The general manager of the British Gas fleet, Colin Marriott, said: "We have been using Ford Transits for several years now and they are proving very reliable. Ford offer well-engineered vans combined with great after-sales service making them the best option for our expanding fleet. The Ford Transit is also very economical, offering the lowest cost of ownership in its class over a five-year, 60,000-mile life cycle."
Ford of Britains director of fleet operations, Kevin Griffin, said: "It's reassuring to know that British Gas which provides such a lifeline to its customers - particularly during extremely bad weather - is putting its faith in Britain's most popular van, the Ford Transit. It is a testament to the popularity and reliability of the Ford Transit that British Gas now have over 1,000 on their fleet."
