Why LED lighting?
Why LED lighting?

You have probably heard about the environmental benefits of LED lamps. They're energy efficient, fully recyclable and long lifeso why hasn't LED lighting been installed by everyone everywhere?

LED lamps are more expensive than regular lamps. Right?

Wrong! With the amount of electricity you save by installing LED lamps you can make huge savings on energy bills, which quickly make up for the initial cost of the lamp. Plus the LED lamps last 30,000 hours as opposed to the 2,000 light hours you get out of a regular lamp, so you save on replacement costs too!

LEDs give off poor quality, unnatural light.

Wrong again! Companies, such as Diamond LED lighting, have worked with LED developers in the Far East to bring you that latest LED technology with wide light angles of up to 60 degrees and the option of warm white light that will give lighting scheme that closely matches that given by regular lamps. Cool white lamps are also available to give a daylight feel to your lighting scheme.

I've used energy saving bulbs before, what's different about these?

A few years ago, many people started using energy saving CFL bulbs. The government gave out free ones and now they're readily available to buy cheaply from the local supermarket. However, there are various problems with them that are easily improved with LED lamps:

CFL lamps take ages to achieve full light output With an LED you get full, good quality light output as soon as you switch the light on

CFL lamps are bulky If you try to fit a CFL into a regular fitting, such as GU10 found in the average kitchen or bathroom, they stick out in an ugly fashion. LED lamps, however, are the same size as a regular halogen lamp, fitting flush with your average light fitting to give a finished professional look.

CFL lamps contain mercury and phosphor which makes them difficult to dispose of in a safe way LEDs contain no dangerous chemicals and are therefore easy and safe to dispose of and are fully recyclable.

I don't want to have to replace all my electrics and light fittings.

LED lamps run off regular 240V mains electricity meaning that you don't have to do anything to convert your power source before fitting them. A wide range of products are available that slot right into your regular fittings such as GU10 and MR16, so you just pop out that old energy guzzling lamp and pop in an energy saving LED lamp. Easy as that! And because LED lamps last up to 15 times longer, you won't have to change another bulb for a long while yet.

Why not LED?!

Now you can see that installing LED lamps will save you a lot of money, time and energy in the long run. So what are you waiting for? Check out the kind of savings you can make with this energy saving calculatorand go environmentally friendly with LED lighting.
