With this second part of the article we will continue to present the remaining 5 cars considered to be the ugliest automobiles that left the line of production. In the first part we reviewed the following models: Chevy Chevette, Ford Edsel, Amic Matador, Chevrolet Corvair and the Pontiac Aztek. Here are the remaining 5 cars:
5. AMC Gremlin many think of this car as being the most ill-proportioned car in the entire history of automobile. It was introduced on April 1 (Fools' Day) 1970. It looked like a hot tub on wheels. Here is a quote from a previous Gremlin owner: "Whatever happened to the back half of this car? It seems as if 40% of the vehicle's body was perhaps unintentionally cropped off on the drafting table. The introduction of the Gremlin rang the final death knell for the already mortally wounded AMC".
4. Chevrolet Vega - this car received many criticisms: cheaply built, harsh ride, rough running, rust prone and many other similar problems. Some people say that this lead to the beginning of the end for General Motors. Here is a quote from an unhappy previous owner: "An alleged four-seater that required a pry bar and 'the jaws of life' (both optional) for passenger extrication from the zero-legroom back seat. Sieve-like leaking aluminum-block four-cylinder engine (guaranteed to crack at no more than 30,000 miles), generating perhaps 70 hp (downhill only, with a good tailwind), while still managing to get less than 20 mpg on the highway!"
3. Ford Pinto Bean many owners complained that if the car was rear-ended, the possibility of the gas tank to explode was very high. It was very underpowered and filled with cheap plastics plus the body of it was prone to rust. Here is a quote: "My neighbor had a vanity plate that read 'IXPLODE' on his Ford Pinto. I was a kid and understood the significance and humor."
2. YUGO the car was considered to be scrapping metal even if it was running. It was that kind of car that you felt like falling apart while you were driving it. Here is a quote from an unlucky previous owner of the YUGO: "I used to work for a dealer and the last one on the lot was an '88 model that never got sold. It was there until 1991, when it was given away as a promotional gift on a radio show."
1. AMC Pacer what can be said about the Pacer? One of the slowest cars ever produced. The front doors had different sizes. Some say that it looked like a fishbowl and the windows leaked. The sunroof leaked too which meant that the car rusted from inside out, a truly unique piece of engineering. Here is a quote from a previous AMC Pacer owner: "It had seats designed like blue jeans, including the brass buttons, which burned the crap out of you on a hot day."
There you have, the 10 ugliest cars, according to a survey conducted by Business Week Magazine. Of course, there are other cars too; this is the tip of the iceberg.
