subject: Introducing the Samsung Lindy M5650 [print this page] The Samsung Genio (also known as the Corby everywhere except in the UK) was quite a success in the market, which pushed Samsung to come out with various spin-offs such as the Corby TXT and Corby Pro. Samsung has now taken things one step further by coming out with an even more up-market mobile phone, which is the Samsung Lindy M5650. In appearance, you would say it is reminiscent of the Genio, but upon closer inspection, youll notice that there are quite a lot of differences. If you already have the Genio, you may want to consider upgrading to the Lindy M5650. The Lindy M5650 Look The M5650 pretty much follows the same approach of being a touch screen device that is both stylish and fun, but it packs in even more features than what you get from the Genio. It is very light for a touch screen phone, weighing in at only 98 grams, and measuring a mere 106 x 57 x 12 mm. The phone comes with an impressive 2.8 inch QVGA touch screen display that boasts of 262k colour support and an impressive resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. It has useful buttons on its face (such as a navigation key, multimedia controls, as well as a call and end button) and is available in two colours black and bright blue. Like the Genio, the phone has a cartoon-like feel to it which shows that it is primarily aimed at younger mobile phone users. The Features When you flip the M5650, youll see its built-in 3 megapixel camera that is also capable of taking good quality videos. There is also an FM radio to go with the Lindys media player, as well as the usual features you would expect from a mobile phone today including microSD expandable memory, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity. Unlike the Genio, which was mainly a GSM-only device, this phone is a 3.5G handset that can support downloads with speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps although it still offers support for GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900. It also supports WiFi connectivity, which is great for those who have ready access to wireless networking. It carries a comprehensive range of useful software and applications such as a user friendly email client, fast loading web browser, and inherent support for various social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. The battery can last for three hours of talk time and 288 hours (or 12 days) on standby mode. Availability Technically, the Samsung Lindy M5650 is already available in the market today since Samsung has chosen to go for a soft launch for the handset. In fact, it has been available in Portugal for months already for less than 150, though this is only through limited retailers. Samsung however promised that the unit will be widely available worldwide sometime within the first quarter of 2010.
