subject: Two Ways With Military Chic [print this page]

The military look keeps coming back in vogue but as ever with womens fashion, theres always a new way to keep it looking fresh. Its important not to take the look too literally and to keep it looking glamorous baggy combats and boots do not a fashionista make!

If you love military chic, make sure you keep it up to date by following one of these two key looks.

New neutrals

Spring/summers muted neutral colour palette has breathed new life into the military trend. If you prefer your fashion feminine but want to stay on top of the trends then this is the perfect way for you to achieve a modern military look. Pale pink, peach and soft faded florals look fabulous teamed with khaki and beige military pieces and give a look thats totally hot right now. To get the look go for a feminine top or dress in a floaty fabric, then edge it up with military pieces but keep shapes soft and slouchy such as a light utility jacket. For an up to the minute twist, forgo the combat in favour of harem pants or peg leg trousers, or alternatively try skinny combat trousers. Avoid the clich of camouflage fabrics though and stick to light sandy shades for a fresh spring feel. High-heeled gladiator sandals in light brown or tan will keep the feel feminine right down to your feet and add a dash of extra glamour. This look is great for daytime into casual evening or is perfect for a festival.

Sharp structure

The other side of military chic is the sharp structured look that centres around this seasons must have piece the military jacket. This is a short, fitted jacket characterised by a strong structured shoulder, often with shoulder pads or epaulettes, and two rows of brass effect buttons down the front in a double-breasted style, often with frogging details. Choose the best style for your shape: if you are slim and small busted then a high necked style with mandarin collar will look fabulous, but if you have a fuller bust a V neck style will be more flattering. Team your military jacket with black skinny jeans or wet look leggings and add tough accessories such as a studded bag. Keep your colour palette strong; try black and red or black and bright cobalt blue. Fierce high heels and a slick of red lipstick will complete your look definitely one for glam nights out.
