Sound Not Working? It Could Be Your Sound Drivers

How To Get Your Sound Drivers Working Again

Is your computer not giving out any sound even though the volume is at full blast? Incidentally, there is nothing wrong with the speakers and/or the head phones are perfectly plugged in the PC. Now, before throwing the speaker or your headphones through the window, double check the sound drivers first. The problem may just be an outdated sound driver. Just like any other drivers, an outdated sound driver may cause problems-the most common is the lack of sound. From time to time, there is a need to update the sound card in order to keep playing those mp3s. So how does one find the necessary drivers?

Fortunately, Microsoft has its own customer care website. In its website, the updated driver may be available.

For those with the operating system of Windows XP the following steps may be used. First, Click Start, then click the Control Panel, and then double-click System. Next, click the Hardware tab. In it, you will see three options after you expand it. You will see the Sound, video, and game controllers option. Next, double click the sound card, and then click the Driver tab. Next, click Update Driver. The Update Wizard will show up and issue instructions.

If the device is still not working properly, the sound card may not be listed with Microsoft. Don't worry. All is not lost. Just get the necessary details of the sound card. After which, search the creator's website for the possible updated drivers. Download the necessary driver and then install it.

Now for those with Windows Vista, there are an additional two steps with the process. Again, click Start, then click the Control Panel, and then double-click System. Next, click on the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. The system may ask for the administrator password, in which case, just provide it and then click Continue.

In it, you will see three options after you expand it. You will see the Sound, video, and game controllers option. Under these, double click the entry for the sound card. Next, click the Driver tab. If the Driver tab is not present, the entry may not be where the sound card is. Click any additional entries listed under the Sound, video, and game controllers to find the correct entry. Next, click on Update Driver Software. The Update Wizard will show up and issue instructions.
