Don't Wait To Get The Best Information For College

Parents and students must work together to keep the high cost of college as

low as possible. A well-thought-out plan, combined with teamwork will

increase your chances of receiving college scholarships and grants. Never

wait until the senior year to position your Jenny for Financial Aid. Two

tragic examples:

Jennys father lost his job during her senior year of high school. Very

soon, all of the savings intended for her college had been spent to support

the family. Jenny had always planned to attend college, but she wasnt

interested in a top-rated college.

She had taken only the courses required to graduate from high school. As she

applied for Financial Aid, she found she had left $750.00 of that crucial

assistance on the table because she didnt take three years of a

foreign language. That missing 3rd year of foreign language could have

provided her with the Academic Competitiveness Grant in addition to a Pell

Grant.

In middle school, John decided to be an auto mechanic. His eighth-grade

counselor offered a curriculum enrolling John in plenty of trade-skill

classes, but with minimal academics.

As Johns career goals changed during high school, his curriculum didnt

keep pace. John figured his high school diploma would be enough to get into

college. During the college application process in his senior year, John

found he didnt have enough high school credits to be accepted, thus

limiting his choices to a community college.

Now, John will have to spend at least another year of college taking high

school academic classes simply to qualify for a transfer program to a

four-year university.

Unfortunately, John not only increased his college costs, he lost valuable

time reaching his goals.
