I Want, I Choose
I Want, I Choose

I love to read. Reading is a fantastic source of inspiration and getting connected to brilliant minds that I would not otherwise normally meet. Again the pages offered another gem of a concept, this time from Dr Dorie McCubbrey's "How Much Does Your Soul Weigh"

Changes in behaviour, thoughts and feelings can often come from a simple shift in vocabulary. One of the most powerful practices we can employ besides keeping conscious and questioning what we think, feel and behave is to direct our focus toward what we want. In NLP terms this is called motivation filters, are you moving toward what you want or away from what you dont want. Many people when they come to me and I ask them 'what do you want' they immediately launch into what they don't want. This is the first and most obvious clue as to why they aren't getting the results they wish for.

We get what we focus on, and if you focus on not being fat for example, the brain hears this, "OMG she wants to be fat, crank up the cravings" The brain cannot process a negative, it does not hear "I dont want . . '

Our focus toward what we want has a powerful self development quality, it triggers the brain to start thinking in terms of solving the desired goal.

Dr McGubbreys pointed out this could be refined even further with a simple change in vocabulary. If I said to you 'what do you choose" can you get a feel for the what happens. It not only brings it into the now as apposed to some upcoming challenge you will eventually have to take on, it means you have a choice. A 'have to' motivation, a should, you need to, doesn't work for many of us. We all know what we need to do but how about making it a choice.

Choosing is active, wanting without action is just wishing. Lets look at this from the weight loss perspective, you want to lose weight, lets imagine for a moment you pass a cake shop and damn it there in your window is your favourite slice, imagine this going on in your head "I want to be slim but man I really want that cake, stuff it I'll start a diet tomorrow"There goes our personal power!

Scenario two "Wow their is my favourite cake . . . no I choose to be slim and that aint going to help, if I want it so badly I can have it tomorrow" By the time tomorrow comes the compulsion will either pass or yes you are really stressed or homonal and sitting down with a great coffee and the one slice of cake and a good book taking time out just for you, because in fact this IS being kind to yourself, will help.

I have been really impressed bu the difference it makes, I hope it helps! 8-)
