Sleep Apnea and Its Three Classifications

Sleep apnea is a usual Sleep Apnea when one exhibits more than one pause when breathing with shallow breaths while sleeping. Each lapse of breathing is termed an apnea. The pause of breathing maybe for just few seconds or even for minutes. The time frame can be 5 to 30 times or even for hours. Sleep disorder is one of the leading causes of excessive daytime sleepiness. People that has low tone and tissue enveloping the airway are at high risk for apnea. Experts believe that older people are more prone to have OSA than younger people. Women and children are less likely to suffer OSA than men. The risk level of the disorder rises with increasing body weight (obesity), active smoking, and age bracket. In addition, patients diagnosed with diabetes or "borderline" diabetes are inclined to getting apnea

Sleep Apnea has three classifications:

- Obstructive sleep disorder,

- Central sleep apnea,

- Mixed apnea and Complex sleep apnea.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea is the most commonly categorized for sleep-disordered breathing. In ordinary situation the muscle tone relaxes, while at the throat level is being composed of soft tissue walls that leads to breathing obstruction.

Central sleep Apnea is referred to as Cheyne-Stroke Respiration. The respiratory control centers in the brain are imbalance with central sleep disorder. The neurological mechanism and the blood are not reacting quickly to maintain an even rate of respiration leading to apnea and hyper apnea (fast breathing). The persons have this disorder stops breathing and start again with no chest movements and struggling.

Another thing is the Mixed and Complex sleep behavior. Complex sleep Apnea was recently described as a novel presentation of sleep disorder. Patients having complex sleep apnea exhibits OSA, but upon applying positive airway pressure the patients exhibits CSA.

Untreated sleep behavior can blow up the risk of too much blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, obesity and heart attack,. More likely also makes irregular heartbeats. Also increases chance of having accidents might be work related or driving accidents.

Sleep Apnea can be treated by changing lifestyle, surgery, aids of breathing devices, and mouthpieces. To have a healthy and worth-living life, we have to make sure that we have healthy lifestyle, healthy diet, and good way of living to avoid illnesses like sleep disorder. Living a healthy life is the safest way out.

It might not be as obscure as other means of living our life, but the hazards of how we are living our lives are great. Small things might be minute and unnoticed, but diseases and illnesses mostly start from scratch and minute things, and eventually lead to the worst case scenario.
