Expats in Spain

When it comes to shopping on the Costa del Sol you will soon find that it is easy to find pretty much anything you want including those all essential items that you thought you could only get in the UK. This is because there is such a large contingent of other nationalities including British who have chosen to take up residency in this part of Spain.

Although there are now British stores such as Iceland and M&S have now opened up stores on the Costa del Sol. You may still find that purchasing the essentials such as milk, bread and eggs is better of being purchased in the local stores. However, if you have cravings for more traditional items such as bacon then this would be best purchased from the British run stores.

However, don't be afraid to look more closely in the Spanish supermarkets as because they know they have a large number of people now living here from other European countries they have begun to cater to their needs. In many cases they will have aisles in the store that are dedicated to stocking essential items that you would expect to get back home such as marmalade and even Branston pickle.

If you want to avoid the rush when it comes to shopping in Spain for groceries or anything else then the best time to go would be when the stores open. This is because most Spanish people will be at work so strolling around the aisles won't prove a problem. Plus of course if the store has an in house bakery then you are assured that the bread you get will be hot and fresh.

Another thing to remember is that when you do go shopping and you intend to use a credit or debit card to make your purchases you must carry some form of identification with you.
