The brand new LG Cookie Plus GS500 has been developed straight off the back of the successful Cookie KP500. The phone features a resistive 3 inch touch screen with WQVGA resolution and an integrated accelerometer for auto rotation; it has a digital camera, FM radio and a USB port for PC synchronization. The Cookie Plus boasts fast web connectivity and online support for various social network sites.
The slim line device has been designed with raised, rounded physical buttons representing call and end with a main menu button in the middle, the phones dimensions are 107 x 52.5 x 11.5mm, the rounded soft casing compliments the dazzling TFT colour display which performs well when receiving finger commands. LG have opted to give the Cookie Plus at least three different colour options with purple, black and silver already decided, this combined with the low price tag means the new Cookie handset is just as accessible as the old one.
LG have stuck with the reliable S-Class user interface for the Cookie Plus; its colourful, playful and very useable, various forms of customization are possible, you can add, move or remove widgets from your main home screen as you desire, this means feeds for Facebook, Twitter, weather updates and your music library can be lifted straight to the surface for immediate access. One of the two side home screens is the LiveSquare; your favourite or most used contacts are represented by colourfully animated little avatars which move around on a changeable background ready for you to initiate the type of communication you wish to use, by simply dragging and dropping one of these borrower sized cartoons you can choose which form of communication to deem appropriate.
The GS500 has been setup to use a 3 mega pixel digital camera which has a handy digital zoom; where general photography is concerned the end product is passable and the pre-installed video recorder will handle basic shooting ok. The multimedia player is equipped to play audio files, music videos and film; the video playback is pretty realistic when you look at the cost of the handset and the audio playback is supported by a 3.5mm AV connection allowing for personal headphone usage.
LG have dedicated a widget which represents all things social networking, full management of your online network accounts has been thrown in with live feeds, unlike the previous batch of Cookies the GS500 is backed up by 3G network connectivity with HSDPA and a useful web browser enabling you to surf the web upload and download content super fast. The browser interface is easy to control and though page rendering is not always perfect this can be forgiven as LG have promised to make this batch of Cookie phones as affordable as the last.
LG clearly know what they are doing when it comes to affordable Smartphone handsets, the LG Pop, GT540 and the Cookie Plus are all prime examples of this; the GS500 has been given a few upgrades from its predecessors, including 3G and an extra mega pixel on the digital camera, its colour variety, customizability will give it a broader customer base and the low price tag will increase its desirability.
