Currently, I run with an old generation Nano. This has served me very well over the years. I was actually caught a bit by surprise when I heard about the release of the new Apple iPod Nano: how could they improve on perfection? Well it turns out the new Nano is even better, here's why.
First of all the new Nano is tiny; I mean incredibly small. Now I wouldn't have thought this would matter, but when running it's key to have as little bulk on you. I had never found my old device oppressive, but I definitely felt just a tiny bit lighter with the new one. I do a lot of long distance runs, so it's very important to carry as little weight as possible and I definitely wouldn't want to go back to my old Nano after trying this new one.
The Nano's new clip is also great for my running. I used to attach my music player to a reasonably bulky arm-band. Now I can just clip it on to any article of clothing and away I go. The combination of the clip and the lightweight nature of the Nano mean I hardly notice it when I'm running. Finally, I love the new interface on the iPod. It took a little while to get used to the touch screen, but it proved to be quite intuitive and I can now change tracks very easily on the move. I used to play one long playlist while I ran, but now I can jump around between songs to pump myself up if I feel my motivation flagging.
All in all the new iPod Nano is another great step forward in running gear. I barely notice it when I'm wearing it and find it easy to navigate. So basically, it's the perfect player and, though I feel guilty abandoning my old Nano, I'm very happy with the new one and would highly recommend it.
