subject: Wwe Tickets - The History Of Tables, Ladders And Chairs Matches [print this page] Many WWE fans will be attending the Table, Ladders, and Chairs (TLC) matches in Austin and San Antonio on Dec. 12 and 13, 2009. Get WWE tickets and see your favorite wrestler jump off a ladder. This dangerous and death-defying match began in 1999, with its origins going back to when Edge and Christian and the Hardy Boyz fought at No Mercy. The following months had the Hardy Boyz facing the Dudley Boyz in a tag-team tables match, which had similar success, with audiences giving the three groups of wrestlers a standing ovation at the end of each match. All three groups had their signature moves while incorporating the tables, ladders and chairs into their routine.
The Dudley Boyz often had a spot in their tag team matches where Bubba Ray Dudley would say, "D-Von, get the tables!" The Hardy Boyz would challenge main-event single wrestlers like "Stone Cold" Steve Austin in ladder matches, considered at that time to be the "signature match" of the team, while Edge and Christian established the "Con-Chair-To" finishing move, which involved both men smashing an opponent's head simultaneously with chairs. In WrestleMania 2000, the three teams fought in a Triple Threat Ladder match, which led to the first TLC contest. The First TLC match involved these three tag-teams at the infamous SummerSlam 2000, but the TLC matches slowly came to an end after Edge and Christian broke up and Jeff Hardy was released from his WWE contract.
Although the dangerous TLC matches increased concussion and neck injuries that plagued the WWE roster, the second TLC matchup occurred at WrestleMania X-Seven the following year. Edge and Christian won that match. The third TLC occurred on May 24, 2001 on SmackDown. Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit went up against the usual three tag teams in order to retain their tag team title. The duo prevailed and the match became the first TLC to be broadcast on TV. It was also the first TLC to involve four tag teams. The fourth TLC occurred on Oct. 7, 2002 on Raw, where four tag teams had a draw. Kane, the Hurricane (both had their World Tag Team Titles on the line), Christian, Jericho, Bubba Ray Dudley, Spike Dudley, Jeff Hardy and Rob Van Dam entered the squared ring for this contest.
The Hurricane was assaulted and Kane found himself all alone in the match, but he managed to retain the titles. On Jan. 16, 2006, the WWE held its fifth TLC, the first in over three years. Edge won the match against Ric Flair and held onto his WWE Championship. It was the first TLC match to be held in singles competition and the first to have the WWE Championship on the line. There have been nine TLC matches to date, with the 10th being held next month (Dec. 12-13) in Austin and San Antonio. Ladder Match DVD, which features the first six TLC matches, was released on DVD in June 2007. So far, every TLC has featured at least one TLC veteran.
