Colour matching can be likened to a little girl dressing up in a pink dress matched with her pink shoes and pink bag and it not the term used when dealing with interior decorating. Colour coordination is the correct term using colours that complement each other.

So how do you coordinate or combine colors? First know your colours. In a typical colour wheel you have your primary colors (red, blue, yellow), secondary color (green, orange, violet), and tertiary colors (red-blue, blue-red, and so on). Now using that colour wheel let's make some combinations. Complementary colours are those that lie opposite each other like red and green. You may think that that's intense (which it is) but when you start playing with tints and shades, that's where coordination works.
