subject: In The Dead Of Winter - It's Spring! [print this page]

When is it springtime in the middle of winter? That is when the fashion designers show off their spring/summer collections. Everything is the fashion business runs according the seasons, so in order for the buyers to make their selections for the upcoming season they have to see the new fashions up to six months earlier than when the consumer season actually begins and the items appear in the stores.

If you are bored with the winter season and tired of going to those dreary office parties, go to a fashion show instead. There you will see the models romping around in spring fashion and summer swimsuits even if it is below zero outside. It is quite fun and a great way to dispel some of the dreariness of the winter season. Also you get a sneak peak at what you will see coming available in the stores in a few months and you can make your own decision about a fashion trend's popularity.

It is fun to guess what is new and good, what will become popular, versus the fashionable rejects. You can also play a great shopping game with the information. Sometimes the fashions do not change so much from year to year and you can see similar things being shown in the new spring/summer collections that were found in the previous ones from last year.

Of course designers are all trying to be innovative, but they end up copying themselves and others in spite of their efforts to be original. If you see something you like in the new collections that had something similar available last year, now is the time to go bargain hunting. Yes the perfect time to find spring/summer designer fashions at bargain basement prices is in the winter!

After attending the fashion shows of the new collections, you go on a hunt to the discount outlets, the secondary markets that get the rejects from the department stores, the dress for less places, and even the sales racks at the department stores. You are looking for that hidden designer treasure that was neglected from the summer and that you can get for 50% to 90% off in the winter.

That is being a smart shopper. Things that fit in this category are surfer pants which have not changed for many years, polo shirts, short pants, and even short sleeve shirts. In winter, short sleeve shirts are sold at a discount simply because the long sleeve shirts are more in demand.

If you are really an adventurist you can throw a summer holiday theme party in December and have a lot of fun being a contrarian. One friend got some sand delivered to his house, filled an outdoor tent with the sand on the floor, added gas heaters and sun lamps, Jamaican free style music, and threw a beach party as a Christmas party. It was a hoot! We encourage you to go wild with spring and summer fashion ideas in the winter and before you know it the real spring will be here.
