Prom Night - Dress for Success

Fashion is best likened to a chameleon as it changes colors and adapts quickly to its surroundings. A quick look back to the wide array of looks that have governed this fickle animal will show a rapid and very different sense of change that tells a lot of the time and the culture to which they belong to. From the whalebone corset to the low rise pair of jeans, we see that what we wear tells more than just what was in vogue, but is a journal of sorts.

High school is such a formative part of our lives. We grow and enter the world of adults as we figure out the transition that we make from kid to young adult and the various changes that we undergo. We grow out of cartoon character shirts and develop our aesthetic foundations here.

There are many opportunities that this phase offers us in terms of dressing up. From spring formals to graduation, how we remember high school is a string of memorable social functions. And we look through the pictures that we took of those days and cringe at how awkward we looked. But in those pictures of over dressed versions of our selves, we will see hints of our fashion choices now.

If there is one big event that we dressed to the hilt for, it was our prom night. In today's more liberated age, the common choice are short prom dresses that leave less to the imagination. Often we see less and less cloth used and even more slits than we thought possible. Getting the best prom dress is an enormous challenge but it can also be definitive of your high school life.

There is another momentous social function that we prepare for in high school. We pick out homecoming dresses for that very special night. A night to meet new versions of old friends and catch up with connections lost with time.

These two very distinct pieces of clothing tell a lot about our personalities. Fashion plays a large role in our lives because it is the visual representation of our taste. A lot of people may see it as a superficial thing, but really, how we carry our clothes is the only way for us to project our personalities to everyone we meet. Though what we wear does not define us, it tells people of who we are.
