Pearls are classified into two types. There is the natural pearl and the cultured pearls. Pearls can be produced in a saltwater environment or a freshwater environment. Most cultured pearls are produced on freshwater. Natural pearls produced on freshwater are more valuable though compared to the best of the cultured ones. Freshwater pearls are more affordable though compared to saltwater pearls. But of course this doesn't mean that it has a poor quality.
Have you ever wondered how freshwater pearls are produced? Well, basically the process of producing cultured freshwater pearls is also the same as producing saltwater pearls. Humans puts a foreign entity such as sand or a tiny pebble which will find its way inside the mollusk which could be an oyster or a mussel. The mollusk gets irritated and so it will secrete nacre to relieve the discomfort. Nacre is the thing that pearls are composed of.
So once you have the pearl, all you have to do is enjoy wearing it and take good care of it. Freshwater pearls like any other type of pearls are quite sensitive because they could easily get scratched. To avoid having nasty scratch marks on your pearls, put your pearls on a separate storage. This would avoid the pearls from getting scratched by your other jewelries. If you don't want to separate your pearls from your other accessories, it would be best if you place your pearls inside a soft pouch. Also make it a point to polish your pearls with a soft cloth to maintain its luster.
