subject: Jewelry 101: Eternity Ring [print this page]

The popularity of Eternity Rings has been going up recently, despite the economic downturn. This, like any other piece of expensive jewelry, has ties to both its monetary value and what it symbolizes. More than just a simple circular band placed around a finger, an eternity ring is supposed to convey the same message that weddings do: that of eternal love and devotion. Diamonds are forever, goes the DeBeers marketing campaign, so a ring that has those gems circling it is symbolic of continuous, never-ending love. When someone is given an eternity ring, it is a grander statement of devotion and affection than anything else, saying just as much about the giver as it does the receiver. The rings have become popular because of their symbolism, both in their beautiful design and in the perceived meaning of being given one.

According to some, the stones of the rings also represent something about their relationship. Experts suggest you put a romantic touch on the ring by choosing which stones to put in. You can start by choosing each stone to represent the day you first met, first kiss, the day you fell in love, wedding day, children, etc. Others also choose stones that represent romantic milestones that have not happened yet or memories that will soon be added in their love diary.

Not just for lovers, eternity rings serve as a perfect gift for any occasion. Often times, parents celebrate the birth of their child by getting an eternity ring. This new spark in a persons life creates an emotion that can be best remembered through a memorable thing. Commonly, eternity rings create a beautiful alternative to wedding bands or a compliment in almost every single engagement proposal. You will never get tired of its style because of its simplicity and timeless beauty, both bringing out the shine in anyone who wears it. Its beauty and natural spark makes an eternity ring far more inviting than more traditional wedding rings.

Couples who wish to get their own eternity rings can choose from two designs: The full eternity ring has diamonds or other stones that go all the way around it. Rings like these exude sophistication, luxury and the highest form of elegance with a sparkle that never ends. However, rings like these cost a little more than half eternity rings because they have to be custom fitted. The stones around the ring make it impossible to be resized. Most people prefer the full eternity rings because they believe they symbolize the eternal circle of love that they have for the recipient.

A half ring only has the stones placed on the top part of the ring, the area that doesnt press against the skin when the hand is closed. This makes it possible to resize it even after the gems have been set in place, as well as being more accommodating of larger gem cuts. They can be quite dazzling depending on the quality and size of the gems used. Half rings are also typically more comfortable for most people. However, jewelers do keep comfort in mind when designing such rings, so this is not a common issue.
